BASES supports Keeping your child safe in sport week

6th October 2023

This week sees the Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) promote “Keeping Your Child Safe in Sport 2023” which highlights the role parents and carers play in keeping their children safe while taking part in sports and activities.

Marking this week, BASES Integrity Advisory Group (IAG) members have recently visited the International Olympic Committee (IOC) headquarters in Lausanne to contribute to the forthcoming IOC Consensus statement on Safeguarding in Sport. Dr Daniel Rhind, serving as a co-chair, and Dr Emma Kavanagh FBASES, invited as a notable researcher, have played key roles in articulating and championing what is needed to foster safe sporting spaces. Alongside this, our BASES Supervised Experience (SE) programme continues its robust efforts in promoting athlete safety through tailored workshops and initiatives. BASES remains committed to embedding safe sport practices at the heart of our operations, advocating for safe and supportive environments for sporting excellence with an emphasis on welfare of all. In conjunction with this week, we'd also like to direct our members to the valuable resources provided by NSPCC, especially their eLearning course tailored for sports parents.
