BASES Climate Change Action Team

6th July 2021

The BASES Board recently announced that it had decided to develop and implement a Climate Change Action Plan to help address the Climate Change Emergency. Further to the call for expressions of interest to join the new BASES Climate Change Action Team, we are delighted to announce that the following members have been appointed:

Dr Andy Smith MBE FBASES (Chair), Dr Susie Crawford, Annabelle Davis, Romain Denis, Louise Ellis, Dr Andrew Garrett, Dr Lee Graves, Sam Hurley, Dr Stephen Mears, and Dr Ash Willmott.

Commenting on the formation of the new Team, Dr Andy Smith FBASES, the Team Chair, said: “As an Association that champions evidence-based practice, science, education, health, sport and exercise, it is important that we do what we can to address the climate change emergency. It was great to see so many members come forward to commit their time and expertise to our collective endeavour. We will hit the ground running, meeting virtually over the next few weeks to start to develop an action plan to be launched around the time of COP26 in November. The Team will also be consulting with members and external stakeholders to find out how Sport and Exercise Science can make a difference.”

Updates on progress made will be shared with members across the various BASES communication channels.
