BASES Outreach Hubs 2024-2025

8th July 2024

There was a successful pilot of the BASES Outreach Hubs in 2023-2024, which included an initial 10 institutions. Last year, over 100 posters were submitted from over 20 schools around the country and the winner was announced in April 2024.

For its second year, following open expressions of interest, BASES has now expanded the number of Outreach Hubs to 32. The expansion of BASES Outreach Hubs will enable BASES to engage with more school students and teachers, as well as members of the public.

BASES will continue to run the school poster competition in 2024-2025, where every Outreach Hub will engage and support school students to develop information posters on topics that they have interacted with during visits to higher education institutions. With 22 more hubs this year, we are expecting more posters and more schools to engage!

The Outreach Hubs will also support delivery of other forms of outreach such as public talks, webinars and engagement with teachers.

Commenting on the success of the recent applications and the quality of submissions received, Prof John Dickinson FBASES, Chair of the BASES Outreach Panel, said, “Expanding the number of outreach hubs to 32 is amazing only two years into the project. BASES Outreach Panel is delighted that so many institutions are able to support BASES and deliver excellent outreach across the UK. The increased number of Hubs will significantly enhance BASES’ ability to spread the word about the great applied work and research that BASES’ members do to make a difference to society.“
