BASES represented at the Association of Colleges Sport Curriculum Conference 2025

18th February 2025

BASES Partnerships Manager, Suzanne Watson, and Dr Lynsey James, (BASES Network Representative, Loughborough University) both delivered presentations at the Association of Colleges (AoC) Sport Curriculum Conference 2025, which took place on 13 February 2025 at the Holywell Park Conference Centre. Following the signing of an MoU with BASES, the AoC Sport invited BASES to be part of their annual Curriculum Conference. The event was dedicated to driving excellence in curriculum design and policy development in further education and sport. It was designed for staff in colleges who have a responsibility for planning and delivering study programmes in sport, physical activity, fitness and active leisure. The event provided an opportunity for the BASES Reps to engage with Further Education Leads with a responsibility or interest in Sport and Exercise Science.

Sue Watson delivered a presentation on the benefits of engaging with BASES and BASES membership for FE organisations. Sue’s talk included information on the BASES Career Guide, Outreach Hubs and our webinar provision.

Dr Lynsey James delivered a presentation on ‘Bridging the gap from FE to HE in Sport and Exercise Sciences – the hidden curriculum.’ The talk covered numerous challenges faced in the transitions from FE to HE and advice on supporting students with this. Loughborough University is a BASES Outreach Hub, and Lynsey covered how BASES Outreach Hubs can support FE organisations and how it has worked for Loughborough University and its neighbouring schools and colleges.

Commenting on the event, Sue Watson said, “Throughout the day, there was an emphasis on discussion, sharing practice and networking. It was beneficial for BASES to be present, to raise BASES’s profile within the FE sector, Engage with FE organisations and share the support on offer. We look forward to continuing our engagement with AoC Sport.”
