BASES Student Conference 2019: Sport and Exercise Science – Transforming Lives
29th April 2019
Over 240 students, academics and exhibitors from across the UK (and further afield) arrived in Dundee on the 17- 18 April for the annual BASES Student Conference 2019, co-hosted by the University of Dundee and Abertay University.
With a theme of “Sport and Exercise Science – Transforming Lives”, the programme set out to showcase world-leading research, teaching and consultancy work being undertaken by our profession to improve physical and mental health, tackle disease and enhance athletic performance. And it didn’t disappoint…
- Seven internationally respected keynotes provided real-world take home messages within the areas of Physical Activity (Prof Nanette Mutrie, MBE, FBASES & Dr Paul Kelly), Nutrition (Dr Matthew Furber) and Performance Sport (Dr Niall Elliott and Kim Murray), alongside a lively debate on the place of Sprint Interval Training from Dr John Babraj and Dr Paul Swinton.
- 12 breakout sessions provided insight from invited speakers on each of the five BASES divisions alongside career development workshops.
- 145 outstanding student posters and free communications were presented. The competition for the student awards was highly contested, with the judging panel noting the very high standard of submissions and presentations. The awards winners are listed here.
There was an amazing energy, vibe and engagement by delegates throughout the two days (which continued on into the conference dinner and ceilidh!), demonstrating that the future of our profession is in very safe hands.
Some of the lectures from the conference are available to view by logging into the Members’ Area of the BASES website.
BASES Student Conference 2020: “Equality, Diversity and Overcoming Adversity in Sport and Exercise Science” will be taking place at Solent University, 15-16 April 2020.
