Successful Sport and Performance Division Event
28th March 2019
To celebrate the BASES endorsement of the brand new HIIT Science course, co-founder Dr Martin Buchheit delivered on all things High Intensity Interval Training at a workshop at Newman University, Birmingham on Thursday 21 March.
The event saw distinguished elite sport practitioners’ Dr Martin Buchheit, (HIIT Science) and Dr Alan Ruddock (Boxing Science) educate the delegates about the science and application of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). HIIT is a time efficient method of training that is growing in popularity and encouraging more people to exercise in their own homes. During the course of the workshop attendees received an introduction to the research and on-field application of HIIT and how theoretical knowledge, research evidence and on-field experience can come together to provide effective training solutions.
Dr Martin Buchheit has worked with elite sports teams and individuals across continents and sports and is widely respected as one of the leading practitioners of his generation. He has recently collaborated with long term colleague and friend Dr Paul Laursen to develop the HIIT Science course which aims to close the gap between research and practice. In an impressive effort they have managed to bring together experts on over 20 sports to provide an authoritative guide on HIIT. BASES endorsement of the course means that members who enrol on the course will also gain CPD points towards their BASES accreditation.
Alan has worked with a number of individual athletes and teams, working at the highest level, having a big influence on Kid Galahad’s British, Commonwealth and European Title wins and more recently, Kell Brook’s IBF welterweight world title victory. Dr Ruddock drew on his experiences of working with Britains best boxers as he currently helps Derek Chisora, Anthony Fowler, Jordan Gill and Kid Gallahad who are at the top of the sport.
Other attendees at the workshop at Newman University include representatives from Premier League football clubs Liverpool FC and Leicester City FC, as well as Championship sides Hull City, Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest and Stoke City. England Rugby League, England Table Tennis and Sport Wales were also represented along with a number of other NGB’s and Universities.
