WiSEAN winner embraces CASES student membership prize
25th July 2025
CASES has welcomed a new Student Member following a successful prize giving at the Women in Sport and Exercise Academic Network (WiSEAN) conference in June.
Eloise Kirby, a second year PhD (Injury Surveillance in Girls’ Youth Rugby) student at Bangor University. Eloise was the winner of the 'Best science based oral presentation’ and claimed her prize of one year’s student membership with CASES.
“The Hidden Cost of the Game: Breast Injury and Breast Pain in U18 International Female Rugby Players” was Eloise's winning presentation during the two-day conference at the Carnegie School of Sport in Leeds Beckett University.
Eloise said, “It was a fantastic opportunity to hear from other researchers and practitioners and learn from their expertise. WiSEAN is a great place to network and I particularly value how it encourages you to consider other angles to your research.”
Signing up for her prize of a one year CASES student membership package, she added,
“I'm looking forward to having access to so many great resources to improve the depth of my knowledge and research. In particular, some of these resources will be helpful as I begin to consider and plan my options post PhD. I'm also looking forward to potentially attending the CASES Conference next year to share my research and network with other members.”

CASES works with partners like WiSEAN in the UK and across the world, to offer opportunities to members, share good practice and form relationships at all levels and specialisms of the association.
The WiSEAN conference welcomed over 150 delegates across two days in June including a range of practitioners, early career researchers and established experts in their fields from around the globe.
The theme, ‘WiSER Together: Valuing diversity and collaborating for change' was chosen to acknowledge the multi-disciplinary nature of the Carnegie School of Sport. CASES was proud to support the event that allowed delegates to share knowledge across disciplines, a range of challenges and concerns regarding women in sport and exercise can be grappled with and solutions identified.
Topics ranged from breast health to the menopause, injury risk and prevention to women in coaching, parenthood to transgender inclusion, intersectionality to menstrual health, and body image to leadership.
