The BASES Heads of Department Forum was established as a day of information, interaction, discussion and networking for sport and exercise science Department Heads and Course Leaders.
Now into its 20th year, the Forum remains a highly popular event at which key topical issues are debated and best practice is discussed and shared.

Overview of the day: The theme of the online event is threefold: Heads of Department career progression challenges and strategies; ‘how to get sport and exercise a seat at the top table in HEI’s’; and to discuss the progress of the BASES Education and Training Special Interest Group.
Aim: To give existing sport and exercise Heads of Department an insight into the strategies required for career progression to obtain position, and representation, at HEI senior management level.

15th Heads of Department Forum
15th Heads of Department Forum - Wednesday 14 March 2018 at Staffordshire University.
The HoD Advisory Group Chair, Dr Lance Doggart FBASES said, “The Forum was another great success! The advisory group decided to change the format and style of the event, based on feedback from 2017, and this included more presenters delivering shorter presentations with more time for discussion between the delegates during the planned scheduled networking breaks”.
The Advisory Group, which includes Jocelyn Tantawy, Dr Keith Tolfrey and Dr Kiara Lewis, also noted that an early review of the evaluations suggested the style and format was very well received with the delegates appreciating the wide array of the speaker backgrounds, and their insights, as well as a number of excellent suggestions for next year.
BASES Chair, Dr Keith Tolfrey FBASES commented, “As always, a huge thank you to our guest speakers and also everyone who made the effort to support the event. We also thank everyone in the BASES office for their support; most notably, Jane Gillott who has been the key administrator for the event for many years”.
